was formed in January of 2005. Founding members wanted to channel the political energy that had been generated during the 2004 presidential election into a cause that would outlast Election Day. Members understood that the issues that had catapulted many local, regional and national groups into action during the election were shared by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The freedoms given to us by the Bill of Rights do not have an expiration date and should not be tied to the fate of a particular candidate or party.
